First, All of Ronaldo's designs are handmade in America by Americans. Next, and more important, through more than thirty years’ traveling, I have met and done co-ventures with some of the top mine owners in the world.

Here’s how it usually works. In the past, I have built designed jewelry for Matti Tykaii of Australia, one of the largest opal dealers in the world. He digs the opals from the ground and sells the rough ore to a company who cuts ‘the rough’. Then the rough is purchased by cutters who create finished stones. Those are sold, by the tens of thousands of carats, to an export/import company which ships the opals to America. A regional wholesale buyer purchases the opals in huge volume. The opals are then sold to a regional distributor, who sells to a wholesaler at a Las Vegas trade show, who then sells the opals to jewelry stores, who then sells to you. Whew! Cutting out the middle-men seems like an great idea!
Let’s look at Diamonds.
Any time you buy from a national chain store, there is an enormous amount of overhead included in your price. Think about what it costs to have the store: monthly rent, and the store’s utility and maintenance costs; salaries for employees; T.V. commercials; newspaper, magazine, and radio ads; and the guy who sits behind a desk in New York and tells us all that we have a friend in the diamond business.
